Gastropod is a newish podcast on my list, but when its tagline is "“Gastropod looks at food through the lens of science and history”, how could I not subscribe?
I listened to their more recent episode on communal eating, which is a fascinating topic for exploring during the pandemic when NOT throwing dinner parties is a matter of life and death. Some years ago, I went out of my way to dig up some books on entertaining, food, and social structures since I am an introverted human and that is not something that naturally appeals. So I wanted to know WHY it appealed to people.
This is definitely an ongoing interest of mine, and Gastropod does include titles written by their featured guests on the topics discussed! I've already added a few to my lists including:
And TOO MANY MORE to add! They're wonderful about including detailed show notes with their contributors and contributors' works, so if you liked an episode, go have a look at the writing of the folks featured.
If you're into food, science, and history, Gastropod may be a good podcast for you. I found it through listening to the Science Diction podcast's food series in August.
