Review of The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses

3 stars.

Seems to be a lot of 4s in my lists lately. This one only missed it in terms of accessibility.

This book is a full-on grimoire and if it works for what it's intended for you as a reader or practitioner, awesome! This is not reviewing efficacy but more the edition and what it professes to do over other editions.

These works can only be traced to the medieval period and the provenance of the content has always been a source of debate. I bought it for my magic/fantasy reference library and because it was referred to in The Red Church as a handbook and controversial one at that. I'd hoped to come to the front matter for some history or couched in some fact or even lore but I had some difficulty getting through it. The focus of it is more and argument for religious magic, regardless of source, and the reasons for this edition being more correct than previous ones.

Would recommend for reference, practitioners, but a bit of a challenge if looking for context.
