I'm not even going to try to explain why, beyond one word, curiosity. The why to what drove me to listen to every various part of the Great Courses series on Religions of the World.
Is it exhaustive? Hell, no. Is it comprehensive? Heavens, no. But it is several hours of basic education on the core religious movements of the world. Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism.
I love a good starting point. This is really beginner friendly. Level one. I wouldn't say level zero because they're long, and not engineered to hold attention. They're 101 style lectures in the slightly dry method of 90s/00s Great Courses.
Extra bonus, these were free through my public library services! There were several available, and I do hope other library systems have this kind of arrangement with the Teaching Company.
