I can't even say how much I enjoyed the fact this history started with geological history. That may not be for everyone, but for a country that has held its own identity for so long, I felt that recognizing how the land and its features and resources formed gave a helpful angle to recognizing how and why Denmark and its leaders connected with its neighbors.
While the book is a pretty high level overview, without a lot of deep detail, that has its own benefits. I wouldn't recommend it for someone already familiar with Danish history, but as a beginner to the topic, it helped to have context. It can also be a start to further reading.
This book doesn't have a lot of emphasis on current events, but there's so much coverage of those in other history books.
